Since 1962 the North Pensacola Optimist Club has been serving the Pensacola community and its youth, including the development of Hitzman Optimist Park located in Scenic Heights on Langley Avenue.
The NPOC is one of thousands of Optimist clubs worldwide whose mission is to provide hope and vision to bring out the best in our communities, youth and ourselves.
As Friends of Youth, the mission of the North Pensacola Optimist Club is to promote Optimism as a philosophy of life by contributing to the lives of its members and the youth of Escambia County; to actively promote Optimistic membership, recruitment and retention; to provide programs to youth that inspire respect for the law, promote patriotism, encourage participation in government and civic affairs; and that provide opportunities that develop and improve one's self as an Optimist for life.
The NPOC sponsors an annual event, The Avenue of Flags, a patriotic community service program designed to honor our country and military on three national holidays: Memorial day, July 4th and Veterans Day. With the support of corporate sponsors and annual individual subscriptions we are able to display thousands of American flags on Bayfront Parkway on these national holidays, raising funds to support NPOC youth and community projects.
For over 50 years the NPOC has sold Christmas Trees to support youth programs in the Escambia County area. An average of 500 trees are sold beginning every Thanksgiving weekend. Christmas tree sales have been a major catalyst to fund many of our youth programs. Christmas tree sales bring our club, community and youth together at a festive time. Many visit our lot just to smell the fresh Frazier Fir trees and fellowships with family and friends.
"THE OPTIMIST" is one of the largest and best-known junior golf tournaments in the world and the North Pensacola Optimist Club sponsors a qualifier to this prestigious tournament each spring with boy and girl qualifiers ages 10 to 18 moving on to the Optimist International tournament at Trump International Golf Course. Each year 600 youth golfers from 25 countries compete, and many of todays well known professional golfers are past participants.
Our Optimist Club invites you to participate in a patriotic, community service program called "The Avenue of Flags". This fundraiser helps us support our activities for youth in our community.
The North Pensacola Optimist Club along with the help of the West Florida HS of Technology sells Christmas trees and wreaths annually starting the Friday after Thanksgiving.
